Blogger’s Setup and Configuration Checklist

Blog name or Title. Is name memorable to people that will visit your blog? Does it match with the content you will be posting to your web blog.


Blog URL or Address.  Does the URL match with the blog name?

Tag Line or Description. On Blogger it’s under settings > Basic. Gives the visitor a quick over view about your blog without reading through your content.  

Posts and Comments. Settings > Posts and Comments. Make sure under Comment Moderation you include and email address to which you will be approving comments by your readers also show word verification so as prove the person posting the comment is human not an automatic script.

Mobile and email. Settings > Mobile and email. You can configure to make posts to your blog via email.
Language and Formatting. Settings > Language and formatting. Enable transliteration so as reach a world audience of different languages.

Search Preferences. Settings > Search preferences. Under Meta tags add a description about your blog so as to tell the search engine what your blog is all about. Crawlers and indexing add robots.txt as explain here.

Other. Settings > Other. Here make use you have added Google Analytics Code as shown here.

Make sure you have a Google Plus Account, Google Plus Fan Page, Facebook Fan Page and a Twitter account. Now you are almost ready to launch your new blog to the World Wide Web. How Add Google Analytics to Blogger/blog

Google Analytics it is a free tool offered by Google that enables blog and website owners to monitor and  exactly know where there web traffic is coming from. Google Analytics will give you
  • The number of people that visited your site/blog.
  • The average duration spent by the visitor.
  • The number of page views on your blog/site.
  • Demographics of where the visitor was viewing your blog( Country, City).
  • The System their using to view your blog/site (Browser, Operating System)
Adding Google Analytics to your site is simple.

Go to GoogleAnalytics and Sign in with your Gmail account details since everything in Google is sychronised by the Gmail account.


















Then Select Admin to your Right and Select New Account.
















Then Google Analytics will ask what would you like to track?





































The ID you will get from Google Analytics will look like these UA-1233434-1. Copy the ID and go to blogger under Settings Select Other and go to Google Analytics and paste the ID there.























Save Setting. Now you have added Google Analytics to your Blog. To view the number visitors to your or blog log in to Google Analytics under Accounts click on your account to see the activity on your blog

How to Create/Setup a Google Fan Page

Before learning how to set up a Google fan Page you might be asking yourself, why do I need one for my business, organization or brand that you have? Then comes the other question of I already have a Facebook fan page and a twitter page isn't these enough already my answer to you would be not enough.

Reason being it’s Google fan page and Google is the world’s largest search engine therefore not having a fan page with them means you are missing big time on valuable and targeted traffic back to your site or blog hence missing on potential customers or clients or fans to your brand, service and organization. 

Setting Up the fan page.

You will need a Google plus account then go to create Google Create Fan Page then you will these interface. Here pick the category that best fits your business, brand, organization or entertainment. 



















The Second Step is Adding Info to your page.




















The Third Step is making your page come alive. Here you will add a cover page and a logo that best represent your business or organization.


















Then click finish now you are up and running to make your First post. At first you will find it a little confusing compared to the facebook one but eventually you will get used to it. The next step is linking your Google plus account with your Google fan page. Go to your google plus account and select settings as shown below.


















Under Settings Scroll down until you see Google + Pages and select automatically add a Google + page to my circles if I search for + followed by the page’s name.





















To View your Google fan Page under Your Google Plus Account shown below.






















The Next thing is going to your Google plus account under Profile you select edit profile and select about then go to other profiles and add the URL to your fan page. Getting the URL to your fan page is Easy just select the whole URL that appears on your webpage.








































Now you have a Google Fan page start making posts about your blog or notifications. Have a Great day.

How to Create /add Site Maps to your Google Blog

Sitemap is way of telling Google about your pages on your website or blog so that they can send crawlers and index them.Adding a sitemap to your blog is easy and free just open Sitemap generator or http://ctrlq.org/blogger/ then type in your URL and click on generate sitemap.
















Then the sitemap generator will generate these.















Go to your blog under settings and select search preferences. Under search preferences, select custom robots.txt. You will be asked to enable custom robots.txt? Select yes and the paste the txt in there and save changes. 

















Then go to Google Web master tools and select your blog. Click on Sitemaps.

















Then select Add/test sitemap then paste the last statement that was generated by the sitemap generator.
















The Last Statement
















Paste it and select test. If no errors, involved select add. Then you will see these.

















Your Status will be pending after a couple hours like 24 or less when you return the Status will have changed then your blog will have a sitemap.

How To Create a Facebook Fan Page.

Before you learn how to make a fan page, it is good to know why you should have a fan page for your blog. Facebook has changed how to interact socially at a global level therefore affecting how we conduct business. It is a great tool that offers correspondence between customers and service providers at a social level and if you miss socially then you are missing feedback. 

In any business, missing feedback means missing what people want therefore missing what to solve people’s problems hence running out of business. The Second option is for companies, organizations or institutions like schools, universities and many more. The Third option is for a brand or product and that is where we come in. For your blog or site, this is your best fit. The fourth option is for celebrities, politicians, music bands and artistes. The Firth one is for entertainment such as TV networks, Movie theaters magazine, studios and many more. The Last option is for a cause or community. Reserved for things that affect our society in general. Creating the fan page for blog select the option that best fits your brand or service you are providing then select your category then agree to terms and conditions then get started.


















You be required to have a cover page and profile photo that represent your business. There are many sites that offer free photos that you can use to represent your business or service or you can get a graphic designer to design a cover page for you then upload it. Here is a list of sites you can use to get free images.


Then make sure you have added your blog URL in the about section and also in the website section. Now the next step is inviting you friends to like you page which Facebook gives you options to do so under the section of build your audience. I suggest first you use the free options before going to the paid options. Now you have a fan page for your blog or site.

How to Create a Google Plus Account.

Before Creating your Google plus account it is important to know why bother creating a Google plus account. It is a great social media platform a part from Facebook and twitter to which you can link up with like minded people.

It is a great way to promote your business online for service you offer or goods that you are selling online or offline.In addition, it gives you flexibility to whom you share your information with via the circles they have created for you and you can create your own circles. These are some of the circles with in Google plus Family, Acquaintances, Friends and many more that you will discover when you sign up with them. The great thing is, you will sign in using your Gmail account and from there you fill in your details.

Go to  https://plus.google.com/ then sign in with your Gmail account.















From there fill in your details as much as possible, upload a real photo of you then under profile go to contributor and link your blogger URL there. Google will suggest for you people you may know add then in the different circles as best fit for you. Now you have Google plus account to which you share your blogs posts within your circles to get traffic back to your site.

How to Edit Your Blogger Template

You may ask me why we need to edit our default template rather than using the options offered by Google’s blogger default templates. Reasons being you need a template that is search engine friendly and it does not use much images in the back ground therefore improving the load time when someone access your blog. The template am about to refer you to is search engine optimized and its simple to use and most of all its free. 
Setting it up is simple, first logging to blogger then select the highlighted button below.

Then select the option template.



















You will meet this interface then select backup/restore to your right as highlighted below.
















Then you will see these interface and select choose file.
























Before you choose file, first download the template from these site and click on download button.























Then you will be redirected to a download page, which you will click on the download button, which it will be saved to your hard drive then extract the template because once you download it comes as a zip file.


















Once you have extracted the zip folder then click on choose file and select the extracted zip file then click on upload.
























Then you will See these interface.
























Congratulation you have uploaded a search engine optimized template to your blog. Now you can view your blog and check it out. In our next post will shall learn how to customize our layout.
